Recognizing and Recovering from Your Moses Moment.

Recognizing and Recovering from Your Moses Moment.

What is a Moses moment?

Poor excuses? Other people’s fault? Over-medication? Life? All of the above?

Simply put, it can be a bad decision, a wrong decision or when clarity and focus seem to go out the window.

According to one Harvard neurologist, “When the body is under chronic stress, the brain switches to survival mode. Cortisol dampens the hippocampus-the memory center-because storing memories isn't a priority during a threat. Simultaneously, the prefrontal cortex shuts down. Clarity and focus go out the window.”

Abuse vs Protection

Why does God allow bad things to happen to good people? Why do some parents discipline their children rather than utilize gentle parenting? Why are some coaches so hard on their players? Everyone has a different role to play, however this much is true, everyone will have an opportunity to face, or make a decision when your moment comes. And how you handle it, will determine the level of life’s reward for you.

Getting to the Root

I am old school, so I believe in spanking, excuse me, disciplining my children; however simply punishing a child, when they don’t (or may not) understand, is not the best method. Ultimately, communication will be necessary, and here is a higher lesson. TRUST!  Have you heard or read this scripture before: “Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.” KJV21 ?

Let’s look at James 2:17 in the Amplified Version: “So too, faith, if it does not have works [to back it up], is by itself dead [inoperative and ineffective].” Let’s break this down and not be so spiritual. First of all, we can’t get to Faith, without trust. (Selah)

Trust in the natural is similar to Faith in the spiritual (supernatural).  We should show excellence in the natural, before we expect God to add (or show) His excellence in the super (Selah).

So naturally for now, let’s substitute Faith with trust and translate James 2:17 to a more modern setting (this time using the AMPC version):

“So also faith [trust], if it does not have works (deeds and actions of obedience to back it up), by itself is destitute of power (inoperative, dead [inoperative and ineffective]).” (James 2:17 AMPC)

Here is a vital key: while living life, when disciplining a child, or whatever; before we open our mouth or communicate, our actions demonstrate who (or what) we really believe (either God or something else). Here’s why: if we first don’t know or trust God’s Word about our own situation [which is our part - trust], how can God sponsor, support or back His Word on our behalf [which is His part - Faith]?

Trust (in Him) is necessary before Faith (in Him) is ever seen. (Selah)

Let me say it a different way:

Our Faith is demonstrated by our action(s) during the exam or test.

Here is how we can measure or locate ourselves:

Ask yourself: Does (or did) our action(s) line up with what (or how) God (or His Word) says that we should (or should have) acted? (Selah)

Now if they do (or did), Praise God!

If they don’t (or didn’t), do not beat yourself up. Learn from the situation by spending some quiet time with God (or His Word), so you can see best, how to resolve or better handle any situation when you are tested again (and you will have another opportunity, so please prepare!)

“For I consider [from the standpoint of faith] that the sufferings of the present life are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us!”
