Jackson is well known for his collaborations in the 1970s with artist Gil Scott-Heron, with his Fender Rhodes electric piano and flute accompaniments prominently featuring in many of their compositions – most notably on tracks "The Bottle" and "Your Daddy Loves You", from their first official album collaboration "Winter In America" (1974).

Between 1971 and 1980, they collaborated on some nine albums, initially on pioneering labels Flying Dutchmanand Strata-East, later moving on to major Arista.

He has released a project here and there, finally returning to prominence once again on the Jazz Is Dead project, specifically "Jazz Is Dead 8" (2021), then going on to release his album "This Is Brian Jackson" (2022) [Discogs]
